Support PlayPumps
International !
About 8 months ago, respected local artist Gail Taylor, saw
an episode of PBS Frontline that really moved her. It was about
an organization in South Africa called PlayPumps International,
who have come up with an ingenious way to combat the devastating
water crisis in North and Southern Africa.
It's a children's roundabout, that when played on, triggers
a pump that with just one hour of play can pump 1400 litres
of clean drinking water into a holding tank that is then pumped
out through an easy hand pump. An amazingly simple. inexpensive
invention that can dramatically improve the quality of life
for many people.
Gail decided to help and painted the beautiful picture below
entitled, "Hold Tight". This picture is 36" by
60" and is currently on display in Agro Cafe, Railspur
Alley, Granville Island, Vancouver.
100% of the proceeds of the sale will be donated to PlayPumps
International to enable them to continue their great work. For
more information, please visit Gail
Taylor or PlayPumps
International.
StoneAge would like to sincerely thank Gail for trying to make
a difference in the lives of ordinary people in Africa.

The annual Granville Island Chalk Art contest was a huge success
again in 2007 !. StoneAge was one of 30 sponsors supporting
20 extremely talented artists who showed us what a lot of talent
and a little chalk can achieve.
This year, 2007, we were proud to sponsor Nina, whose beautiful
artwork is shown below.

In 2006, we were proud to sponsor Sherri Rogers, whose beautiful
and humorous "Woman with Dog" (below), won an honourable
mention - We wish you better luck next year Sherri !

StoneAge
featured in 'BC Home' magazine!
Due to ongoing requests from customers, we have recently added
to our sculpture collection by purchasing an astounding array
of authentic African Masks from 13 different tribes in 10 countries
in Africa. It is our new mask collection that has been highlighted
in the most recent issue of 'BC Home' magazine.

Many of our masks have actually been used in ceremonies and
are not just 'mass-produced' for the tourist trade. Our collection
includes masks from the following tribes: Bamileke - Cameroon,
Baule, Guro, Goli, Yaure – Ivory Coast, Chokwe - Congo,
Dan - Liberia, Dogon - Mali, Fang – Equatorial Guinea,
Igbo/Ibo - Nigeria, Kuba - Congo, Kwele, Punu - Gabon and Tikar
- Cameroon.
Our supplies of these masks are limited, please give us a call
for more details.

StoneAge Art Company is proud to have been a part of the Canadian Red Cross - 'Seeing Red' Campaign aimed at helping the people of Zimbabwe stricken with HV/Aids. We were both born and raised in Zimbabwe and still have family there. We know first-hand what this terrible disease is doing to the ordinary, wonderful people of Zimbabwe who are suffering on a daily basis.
We are a small family-run business with limited resources and we believe that this shows what can be achieved through individual committment to a worthwhile cause. We would like to sincerely thank the Canadian Red Cross and their volunteers for the wonderful work they are doing to help our fellow Zimbabweans.
As part of our continuing effort to give back to the community, we will also be collecting donations for the 'Seeing Red' campaign in our gallery on an on-going basis.
Our latest shipment continues to build on our
reputation for excellence in Shona Sculpture. We are now representing
a number of new artists with an amazingly fresh approach to their
work and we look forward to your visit as we unpack over the next
few months!
Update: We have now unpacked a large number of
our new pieces and they are in the Gallery right now - If you
haven't visited us in a while, you are in for a visual feast!
