StoneAge 2009 Silent
Auction benefiting Chivhu Hospital in Zimbabwe a Huge Success!
StoneAge Art Company once again held their
annual silent auction aimed at helping the people of Zimbabwe.
We are proud to announce that our 2009 auction raised $5500
which will be going to support Chivhu Hospital in Zimbabwe.
Chivhu Hospital has a desperate need for medical supplies and
equipment. It is a small rural hospital serving 1 million people
and it is in urgent need of equipment and medical supplies.
We would like to thank the three generous customers below who
made this all possible:

100% of money raised will be used to buy essential
items for use in Chivhu Hospital whom we are extremely happy
to support for their life-saving work they perform on a daily
basis. Please keep your eyes on our website for our 2010 Silent
Auction which will feature more amazing sculptures from the
Shona sculptors of Zimbabwe.
#1 - "Preening Bird" carved from Opalstone by Benjamin Mundara
Won by Donna from Winnipeg,
Manitoba, Canada who bid $2500
Benjamin is well-known for his abstract sculptures
in a multitude of different stones. This is a particularly beautiful
piece of Opalstone that he has sculpted to perfection. The combination
of polished and unpolished stone together with use of the natural
texture makes this a highly desirable piece. This is an outstanding
example of the use of the natural stone to enhance the impact
of the sculpture.

#2 - "Protector of Secrets" carved from Springstone by Tendai Mushawapwere
Won by Kim from Bermuda who
bid $1200
Tendai works mainly in the very hard stone
called Springstone. This is a beautiful abstract with dramatic
form that emphasizes it's height. Tendai has left the top of
the head untouched, showing the natural shape and texture of
the stone as it came out of ground. The use of the natural qualities
of the stone is what had made Shona Sculptors famous around
the world.

#3 - "Shona Princess" carved from Black Serpentine by Tichoana Gift Musorounpanda
Won by Trevor from Seattle,
Washington, USA who bid $1800
This is a beautiful realistic work with equisite
detail in the facial features and hair. 'Shona Princess' is
carved from a wonderful piece of Black Serpentine, a very hard
stone and the overall effect of colour and form give 'Shona
Princess' a very regal feeling.

We would sincerely like to thank everyone who
bid on these sculptures and would also like to congratulate
the winners! Our next auction benefiting Chivhu Hospital in
Zimbabwe will be starting again in May 2010 and we can promise
you that we will again be presenting some wonderful sculptures
for auction.

Support PlayPumps
International !
About 8 months ago, respected local artist Gail Taylor, saw
an episode of PBS Frontline that really moved her. It was about
an organization in South Africa called PlayPumps International,
who have come up with an ingenious way to combat the devastating
water crisis in North and Southern Africa.
It's a children's roundabout, that when played on, triggers
a pump that with just one hour of play can pump 1400 litres
of clean drinking water into a holding tank that is then pumped
out through an easy hand pump. An amazingly simple. inexpensive
invention that can dramatically improve the quality of life
for many people.
Gail decided to help and painted the beautiful picture below
entitled, "Hold Tight". This picture is 36" by
60" and is currently on display in Agro Cafe, Railspur
Alley, Granville Island, Vancouver.
100% of the proceeds of the sale will be donated to PlayPumps
International to enable them to continue their great work. For
more information, please visit Gail
Taylor or PlayPumps
International.
StoneAge would like to sincerely thank Gail for trying to make
a difference in the lives of ordinary people in Africa.

StoneAge Art Company is proud to have been a part of the Canadian Red Cross - 'Seeing Red' Campaign aimed at helping the people of Zimbabwe stricken with HV/Aids. We were both born and raised in Zimbabwe and still have family there. We know first-hand what this terrible disease is doing to the ordinary, wonderful people of Zimbabwe who are suffering on a daily basis.
We are a small family-run business with limited resources and we believe that this shows what can be achieved through individual committment to a worthwhile cause. We would like to sincerely thank the Canadian Red Cross and their volunteers for the wonderful work they are doing to help our fellow Zimbabweans.
As part of our continuing effort to give back to the community, we will also be collecting donations for the 'Seeing Red' campaign in our gallery on an on-going basis.
Our latest shipment continues to build on our
reputation for excellence in Shona Sculpture. We are now representing
a number of new artists with an amazingly fresh approach to their
work and we look forward to your visit as we unpack over the next
few months!
Update: We have now unpacked a large number of
